A HEART transplant patient is today celebrating 25 years since undergoing the pioneering operation.
Paul Taylor took part in the UK's first "domino" heart transplant, receiving the donation from a patient who, in turn, underwent a heart and lungs transplant.
Aged just 27 at the time, he hoped he would survive long enough following the operation to see his son, Gareth, go to school.
Now Mr Taylor is a grandfather to 16-month-old Spencer and is looking forward to Gareth's wedding to fiancee Samantha Toon in a few weeks' time.
Mr Taylor said the longest-surviving UK heart transplant patient he was aware of had undergone the operation 30 years ago.
The 52-year-old, of Stenson Road, Sunny Hill, said: "I look forward to my transplant birthday more than my actual birthday because it feels like more of an achievement."
At the weekend, he and wife Karen modestly celebrated the milestone anniversary with a family lunch.
