It's National Minority Donor Awareness Day

LifeLine of Ohio
Every year, Aug. 1 marks National Minority Donor Awareness Day, beginning a week-long observance to promote organ and tissue donation. Created in 1996 by then-President Clinton, the nationwide effort is intended to inspire people from all ethnic groups to become organ and tissue donors and discuss that decision with their families.

Ethnic minorities (including African-Americans, Asians, Hispanics, American Indians, Pacific Islanders and people of multiracial descent) make up 36 percent of the U.S. population and comprise nearly 56 percent of individuals on the U.S. transplant waiting list, displaying the importance of registering as an organ and tissue donor to meet the need for transplantation.

Make a difference for the 114,733 people in the U.S. waiting on a life-saving organ transplant – register today! To learn more about organ and tissue donation, click here.
