Jamestown, NC -- If you knew someone needed help, how far would you go to help them?
When a Winston-Salem travel agent found out a Jamestown man needed a kidney transplant, she decided there was one way she could help, especially since a transplant could cost him more than $250,000.
Jason Spangler was born with only one kidney.
"When I was five, I had surgery on the single kidney. And at the end of the surgery, they said it was at about 38 percent function and that I'd need a transplant by the time I was 10," said Spangler. "I just kind of beat the odds."
On the outside, Spangler looks like just a normal dad to his 10-month-old daughter, Amelia. But on the inside, his kidney is only functioning at 12 percent.
"They have given me various projection dates of...by 16, by 21, by 28 that I would need a transplant, and I'm 35 now," said Spangler.
