ATHLETE: Former transplant patient Laurence Sandum and his wife Tina
A DAD-OF-TWO who had a kidney transplant is taking part in the British Transplant Games this summer.
Laurence Sandum, 52, from Deansway Avenue, Canterbury, was diagnosed with renal failure in his 30s.
He had a transplant in 1999 and was back playing football four months after the operation.
He came home with a bronze medal after his first transplant games in 2000.
This year's Games will be held in Medway with hundreds of athletes who have had life-saving transplanted organs competing in track and field events.
Laurence, who has two daughters, won gold and silver medals at previous games and will take part in the 1,500m and 800m races, the 10km cycle race, and the 5km run and 5km walk.
