
Jay Sokoloff is the proud owner of a new set of lungs thanks to the selfless gift of an organ donor.
MONTREAL - Jay Sokoloff, 41, was hosting guests on June 24 when he received the news that would change his life.
“We were having a huge party here in the backyard. People are here flipping the burgers and the beeper goes off,” he said.
After a long wait, a pair of suitable lungs had finally been found and Sokoloff would be going under the knife almost immediately for a double lung transplant at Notre Dame Hospital.
Sokoloff has been getting regular treatment for his lungs since the age of 12, after being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at three.
But over the last five years, the father of two young daughters saw the disease debilitate his lungs, leaving them at 30 percent capacity and dashing his attempts to live a normal life.
