Lauren Sewell, a 24-year-old Surrey woman who was killed in a plane crash earlier this week, was kind, sincere and never said a bad word about anyone, said one of her lifelong friends on the weekend.

"It's a rare thing to be so genuine and so honest," said Kendall Titchener, 25, fighting back tears as she remembered her childhood buddy.

Sewell was a passenger on the PA 30 Piper Twin Comanche travelling to Boundary Bay from Penticton when it crashed Monday near Brenda Mines. She was alive when rescuers found her by the tangled wreckage but later died at Kelowna General Hospital.

Her 30-year-old boyfriend Dallas Smith died in the crash.

The plane ride had been a special 30th birthday present to Smith from Sewell. The couple, friends say, were wonderful together and although they had only been dating a few months, really clicked.

Two people — one of Sewell's friends and the pilot — survived and remain in hospitals in Kamloops and Vancouver, respectively.
