SDPD Officer Jeremy Henwood Honored With 'Donate Life' Rose Parade Float
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego police Officer Jeremy Henwood was honored Monday, one year after he was shot and killed as he sat at a stop light in his police cruiser.
A Rose Parade float honoring Henwood was unveiled Monday. The float is sponsored by the organ donation charity "Donate Life."
One year ago, Henwood was in his patrol car in City Heights when a man who was later identified as Dejon White pulled up next to him and shot him in the head. Police fatally shot White shortly after when he was said to have grabbed his shotgun.
In the time following Henwood’s death, he was seen as a local hero.
Shortly after his death, San Diego police released surveillance video inside a McDonald's just before Henwood was killed. The video shows Henwood giving money to 13-year-old Daveon Scott to buy cookies.
