Jacqui Redfern with her medal haul from the transplant games

A BUXTON woman who battled her way back to health after undergoing a life-saving kidney transplant has won five medals at the British Transplant Games.

Jacqui Redfern won gold in the shot putt and javelin, silver in the 100 metres and bronze in the 200 metres and 100 metre relay at the at the national event, held in Medway, Kent.

Jacqui underwent a successful kidney transplant eight years ago after suffering health problems from the age of 20. Her donor was an 11-year-old boy.

She hopes her success at the British Transplant Games will inspire more people to join the national Organ Donor Register.

“It was very humbling to be around all of the other transplantees, especially the children, and the donor families,” said Jacqui, 39, of Harpur Hill.
