RED OAK – Lenora Steadman was the first person to simultaneously receive a new heart, kidney and pancreas back in 1992. She received this lifesaving triple transplant at Methodist Medical Center. Now she finds herself in need of another transplant. This time, Steadman needs a new kidney.
To aid Steadman in her efforts of receiving a kidney transplant the community of Red Oak is pulling together at the Founder’s Day event. Led by Steadman’s best friend, Donna Jones, they will hold an Organ Donor Drive during the Red Oak Founder’s Day event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.
Jones said they would have a booth set up throughout the event to help raise funds for Steadman and allow people to sign up to become a donor.
“Lenora (Steadman) received a triple organ transplant, and is the only living survivor of this type of surgery,” Jones said. “Now her kidney is failing and she needs our help.”
