Alums Experience Value of Organ Donation

Teresa Roberts (B.A. English ’86) and Michelle Schmitt (B.A. Psychology ’13; MSW student) have experienced the live-saving effects of organ donation. This past summer, Roberts, a teacher at Presentation Academy, saved the life of a Kentucky soldier by donating one of her kidneys to the man.

Inspired by a WAVE 3 news story, Roberts wanted to help the soldier, who was in kidney failure, after pain relievers used to treat a traumatic brain injury sustained in Afghanistan damaged his kidneys. Roberts’ selfless gift is truly inspiring.
