Month After Kidney Transplant, Teen Catching Up On Old Life

LaSALLE — Like many seventh graders across Monroe County, Julia DePelsmaeker has been working on some projects over the last few weeks to wrap up her homework before the end of the school year.

One Thursday afternoon, as a cool breeze and the smells of a neighbor’s burn pile drifted in through the window, Julia sat at the kitchen table of her family’s LaSalle home, carefully placing stickers onto the colorful pages of a book report.

She read “The Notebook,” a popular novel by Nicholas Sparks. But she liked the movie better.
