Rose Parade honors Oakdale native for organ donations

When a tragic vehicle accident claimed the life of Nicholas Jordan Aucoin more than four years ago, the Pine Prairie teen's family knew his story was far from over.

"Bittersweet" is the word Misti Aucoin said her family keeps coming back to after her stepson, who went by his middle name Jordan, saved the lives of six others when his own young life was cut short.

"We know through the hardest part of our lives someone else was helped," Misti said.

The hardest part of the Aucoins' lives came in November 2010 when 18-year-old Jordan, an Oakdale native, was on his way to pick up his sisters from after-school activities. Jordan suffered a severe head injury in a vehicle accident, and he was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, where he died two days later. Continue reading
