Caring people prepare to support the "Gift Of Life" with annual walk/run Saturday on Belle Isle


DETROIT (WXYZ) - Caring people are getting ready to lace up their shoes this weekend in a big push to support "The Gift Of Life." It's the "18th Annual Life Walk/Run" hosted by "Gift of Life Mottep" (Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program), This year's event is Saturday July 25th at Belle Isle's Flynn Pavillion. The even features 5K and 10K races as well as a kids’ fun run, free health screenings, a healthy eating cafĂ©, entertainment and other activitie. Organizers say the event is family-friendly and "promises a good time while promoting awareness of the critical need for more organ and tissue donors."

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein will serve as marshal for this year's event. Bernstein, the first blind justice on the state’s highest court, is also an Ironman triathlete, an 18-time marathon runner and a tireless advocate for those with disabilities. Continue reading
