Father's transplants inspire daughter to volunteer for Lifeline

A Darby High School rising freshman is spending her summer before high school volunteering for Lifeline of Ohio, an organization matching organ donors and recipients.

Mia Miller, 14, said she chose Lifeline as a Girl Scout service project because her father, Randy Miller, has twice received kidney transplants.

Mia will be at the Hilliard Farm Market from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, and at various times at the Columbus Jazz & Rib Fest on Long Street in downtown Columbus from July 17-19.

She will register organ donors at each venue on behalf of Lifeline.

Mia is a member of Girl Scout Troop 2649 and is working toward her Silver Award.

"When my troop leader asked us to do a service project, she said we should pick something we are passionate about, so organ donations was a natural choice," Mia said. "My dad received a wonderful gift. He is lucky to be here today and I am lucky to be here today." Continue reading
