REGION – What could be a greater volunteer role than knowing that your action might provide the gift of life to someone, somewhere right in this state?

A local group is working to build a Gift of Life Michigan affiliate for this area. This small band of people is looking for others to join the effort. They are hoping people will see this as a personal opportunity – a place where they can use their talents and experience for the good of others.

Gift of Life Michigan is the only nonprofit organ and tissue donation program based in the state. It is linked with the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office.

As noted in the Gift of Life Michigan website: "We strive to increase public and professional participation in organ and tissue donation to improve and extend the lives of Michigan residents."

Helping to get that word out is the reason four dedicated people are working to establish the local volunteer group, which will be affiliated with Gift of Life Michigan. Those individuals include Michelle Schultz, Mary Sawyer, Dave Lemmen and Kim Hartgerink.

Gift of Life has touched each of their lives; one as a recipient, one a donor and the other two through spouses receiving donations from Gift of Life. Continue reading
