Hit a home run for life at the RiverDog Days of Summer blood drive

Red Cross partners with ABC News 4, Y 102.5 and Charleston RiverDogs to help save lives

The American Red Cross is asking donors to go to bat for patients in need at the RiverDog Days of Summer blood drive July 30, sponsored by ABC News 4, Y 102.5 and the Charleston RiverDogs.

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Five years ago, that person was Summerville resident Amy Kath. An unknown condition led to the deterioration of her liver – she needed an organ transplant, and fast. She received multiple blood transfusions during the initial transplant surgery. When complications resulted in a second operation, she needed blood again. “Had that blood not been available for that second surgery, I would not have made it,” she said.

Thanks to the generosity of blood and organ donors, Kath received the blood transfusions she needed to continue making memories with her husband and two children. Continue reading
