A MAN who received a kidney transplant has told how grateful he is to the organ donor who saved his live.
Gordon Gilfillan, from Aberdeen, has spoken out after the launch of a new organ donor register, where people have the chance to have their decision to opt out be recorded for the first time.
Gordon, 36, has a genetic condition called Alports Syndrome, which causes progressive loss of kidney function and eventually failure.
He said he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for his donor.
He said: “It’s something you just never get your head around – I wake up every single morning grateful.
“I hope the family of my donor feel good about the fact they’ve done something amazing.”
Thanks to the actions of the donor, Gordon and his partner Lyndsay are planning for the birth of their first child in two months’ time.
