SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah donor registry hosted the 19th annual Dash for Donations to honor donors and celebrate transplant recipients at Sugarhouse Park Saturday morning.
Participants could choose to run a 5K course or 2K walk. Many in attendance have benefited from organ or tissue donations
The race serves as a way to meet and connect with donor family members, living donors, recipients and their families.
Lisa Hamblin, one of the participants at the event, had a daughter who died at 15 years old. She said her daughter’s vital organs and tissue were donated after her death.
“I believe that everybody should be a donor,” Hamblin said. “I think that we were really not faced with that question or issue until we had this accident in our lives, but to further help other families be able to stay together with their families is important and I think it’s a great thing to do.
