Middle Magnet turns tragedy into giving event

When Caddo Middle Magnet art teacher Erin Sitton lost her son Eddie at the age of two weeks old, her heart was broken.

Through her grief, Sitton committed to carrying on Eddie’s legacy wherever she went. She began wearing a necklace as a memorial to his short but inspiring life, and she started painting. Sitton said she took comfort in the decision for Eddie to become an organ donor — knowing he was able to give even through tragedy.

Nearly one year later, Sitton is carrying on Eddie’s memory through the creation of Be a Gift Week. The school-wide event was designed to raise awareness of organ donation, to inspire students and staff to commit random acts of kindness and to raise funds to donate to the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency.

“Eddie lived so much in those two short weeks,” Sitton said. “He was full of love and life and we are helping him to live on every time someone hears his story and gives of themselves.” Continue reading
