LAGRANGE COUNTY - Across the country there is a major shortage of organ donors. In Michiana, it's officially one week until high school football...and FOX28 Sports Extra...kick off! Tonight, the two neighboring football teams are using a pre-season scrimmage to bring attention to the problem. All because of a special bond between two opposing coaches.
The neighboring Lakeland Lakers and Northridge Raiders are doing their annual scrimmage, but they're not just preparing for the season to come. They're working with Indiana Donor Network to encourage more people to donate their organs. A need which both team's freshmen coaches know too well.
avid Priestley, Lakers : "I'm assuming I'll be standing at a press box on a field somewhere when that call comes," Freshmen Lakers Coach, David Priestley, said.
He has been waiting for a heart transplant since November. Freshmen Raiders Coach, Bryan Fisher, just got one in May.
