Team Lucas makes their run at Dash for Donation event

Members of Team Lucas, during the recent Dash for Donation 5K event held in Columbus. Stacie and Sam Dennis worked to build up the team, now at 140 people, to participate in the annual event in honor of their late son Lucas. The Dash is held each year to help raise organ donation awareness.

Stacie Dennis has amassed a small army of runners, from three to 140 in just a few years, to run (or walk) in the annual Dash for Donations.

Stacie and her husband Sam made the one decision no parent can think of and at their worst possible moment. Lucas, their 14-month old son, was the victim of a drowning accident the doctors at Licking Memorial had just told them there was nothing they could do when Sam asked a life-saving question.

“My husband asked about donating Lucas’ organs,” Stacy said.

According to the Lifeline of Ohio website, someone in Ohio dies waiting for a transplant. In the last 10 years, more than 2,000 have died while waiting for a transplant that never came.

“I agreed instantly, said Stacie. “The thought was also on my mind.”

It was June 14, 2010, two months after Lucas’ first birthday, he was born April 14, 2009. Continue reading
