‘Tree of life’ honours organ donors, spreads awareness

As you enter the Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, on Friday, a tree greets you with bright lamps and paper tags hung all around. A closer look reveals the names of organ donors written on lamps and testimonials of recipients.

Her liver transplant two years ago has been a life-changing experience for 19-year-old Dnyshree Ghule, who has decided to donate her organs. “Whenever I get a chance I tell people about this (organ donation) and encourage them…” reads her testimonial. Several others like her have shared how organ donation has given them a fresh lease of life.

Families of over 20 organ donors were felicitated at a meeting to launch a campaign to inspire more people to donate organs and to create awareness about organ donation. Lamps bearing the names of organ donors hung on the tree of life were illuminated to honour donors and also celebrate the second chance for life given to the recipients. Continue reading
