DENVER – It a joyous day for a Denver family but also a day of profound gratitude.
Thursday is the one-year anniversary of Juniper Gelrod's heart transplant at Children's Hospital Colorado.
"While today is a happy one for us, there is another family who is mounting the anniversary of losing their child and that is never far from our thoughts," Juniper's mother, Joni Schrantz said in Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/junipersheart.
Juniper was born Feb. 12, 2014. Within two weeks, her parents found out Juniper's heart was not functioning properly.
She was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a genetic condition that prevents the heart muscle from being able to pump blood.
Juniper needed a heart transplant but had to wait five months for one to become available.
