A mother has left a life-saving legacy after her husband learned she was an organ donor while she lay dying in hospital.


Marie Bowman’s sudden death devastated her close-knit family, but they are now taking some comfort that her selfless actions have given three people a second chance at life.

The 51-year-old was taken ill after suffering an aneurysm and died a week later in hospital.

In the weeks since her death, the family have learned that her kidneys were donated to a woman and a man, both in their thirties, while her liver was donated to a man in his fifties.

Her proud husband Andy has spoken about the loss of his wife to encourage others to sign up to the organ donor register.

Nationally, the number of people donating organs fell in 2014 for the first time in 11 years. Mr Bowman, a truck driver, is now urging others to become organ donors as he signs up himself ahead of National Transplant Week. Continue reading
