Memorial garden opened so man whose organ donation saved four lives is never forgotten

The parents of a young man whose organs saved four people’s lives have built a memorial garden to honour selfless donors.

Martina and Denis Goggin remained by the bedside of their only child Eamonn for five days as he lay in a coma following a horrific car crash.

They clung to a distant hope that somehow the bubbly 26-year-old would pull through after the collision in their home village of Spiddal, Co Galway.

But his traumatic injuries were too severe and Eamonn slipped away on July 26, 2006.

In the midst of their devastation and grief Martina somehow remembered a conversation she had with Eamonn about her organ donor card.

She explains: “I had always carried an organ donor card and I had spoken to Eamonn about it about a year before.

“I had said it to him, ‘You know I have a donor card in case anything ever happens to me’ and he had said,
