Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System is among a select group of hospitals being recognized nationwide for activities that successfully promote enrollment in state organ donor registries.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recognized SVMHS for Gold Achievement, one of only 44 hospitals statewide to achieve the highest recognition.
"We know that awareness and education about organ donation can save lives," ER Director Carla Spencer, said. "We want to make registering as simple as possible – it not gives the gift of life, it can reduce the number of difficult decisions families face during a time of great loss."
SVMH’s awareness and registry campaigns educated staff, patients, visitors and community members on the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donors and thereby increased the number of potential doors on the state’s donor registry. Continue reading
