ContributedStaff members from Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown are shown gathered outside the hospital on Oct. 2 for a flag-raising ceremony in honor of a local organ donor whose gifts of life helped save two other New York residents.
A local organ donor who recently died was recognized at an Oct. 2 ceremony for his “generous gifts of life,” which helped save the lives of two New York individuals, officials said Thursday.
Staff members from Bassett Medical Center and the Center for Donation and Transplant gathered last week in Cooperstown to perform the ceremony, which was the hospital’s first formal “Donate Life” flag-raising.
The ceremony took place outside of the Bassett Health Clinic, which is across from the hospital, according to officials. The male donor, a member of the Lasher family from Oneonta, died in July.
The Donate Life flag is flown each time organ or tissue donation is facilitated at the hospital, according to Karen Huxtable, Bassett’s spokeswoman. It’s also displayed during National Donate Life Month in April to help raise awareness of the benefits of organ and tissue donation. Continue reading
