NEW ALBANY — When Ted Burch found out he was a good candidate to receive a much-needed kidney transplant, his wife didn't hesitate to volunteer to be his donor.
The trouble? Vanessa Burch didn't have a compatible blood type.
However, Ted was on a waiting list at the University of Kentucky's transplant center, which was undergoing big changes, and in June, the two, along with six others, became part of the hospital's first kidney paired donor chain. Continue reading
