Lucky Lacey Celebrates 25 Years of Life

If there ever was a reason to celebrate, Lacey has two!

A two-time organ transplant recipient, Lacey is marking the 25th anniversary of her first transplant—a heart—in two special ways: by running the Rock N’ Roll Half Marathon in Lisbon, Portugal later this month, and simultaneously, raising funds to benefit Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.

“The House was there for me and my family when we needed it the most,” says Lacey. “I wanted to celebrate this special occasion by doing something for families who are going through what we experienced.”

Lacey’s incredible story of beating the odds began when, as a ten-month-old infant, she caught a devastating infection that permanently damaged her heart. Her doctors, believing the situation to be hopeless, told Lacey’s distraught parents to take their daughter home and enjoy what little time they had left together. Undaunted, Lacey’s mother, Colleen tenaciously pursued every possible alternative. She called doctors and hospitals throughout the country, searching for a glimmer of hope. Continue reading
