Organ donor advocates climb Mont-Saint-Anne to raise awareness

One hundred people climbed Mont-Saint-Anne, near Quebec City on Saturday, to raise awareness about organ donation and encourage families to talk about it.

They included doctors, medical students, donor family members and people who received a transplant.

One participant, a father of a girl who received a graft, stressed the importance of signing one's health insurance card to consent to organ donation, and to inform one's family members of this decision.

"It's super important to sign this card. It's critical," Benoît St-Pierre said.

One in three families refuse to donate a dead loved one's organs, even when the deceased has signed the card, Transplant Québec says. Continue reading
