Sens owner Eugene Melnyk a champion for organ donation

Eugene Melnyk can’t thank the people at Toronto General Hospital (TGH) enough for saving his life.

Now, he wants to give back.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with the Sun on Sunday at his Ottawa hotel, the Senators owner said he’s working with members of the organization to find a way raise awareness for organ donation.

After getting a life-saving liver transplant in May, Melnyk, 56, can’t donate his liver but he has signed his donor card because his other organs are functioning properly and he certainly wants to give back.

Asked if there was anything he wanted to say near the end of the two-hour visit, he noted he wanted to make sure he didn’t let the opportunity pass to ensure the subject of organ donation is brought to the forefront.

He can’t say enough good things about the people at the TGH, about the treatment he received and the medical miracles they can do. Continue reading
