A photography competition has been launched by staff at Cornwall's main hospital to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.
Gill Saville, consultant on the Royal Cornwall Hospital's intensive care ward and clinical lead for organ donation, launched The Joy of Life competition to encourage people to discuss the subject, which she calls "the gift of life".
"I appreciate organ donation is not for everyone but certainly for those donor families that I have dealt with they have taken a huge amount of comfort from the idea that out of something that is often very sad and very tragic other people have had something to gain," she said.
"For the patients that received organs there is an extraordinary change in their lives."
Instead of hours hooked up to a machine they can instead return to work, play with their kids and live a "normal, full and active life", she added. Continue reading
