Doctors, DFPS plead for help for boy needing new kidney

AUSTIN -- There are over 120,000 patients waiting for a life-saving organ transplant in the United States, including thousands of children.

Doctors at Dell Children's Medical Center and the state's Department of Family and Protective Services are asking for the public's help. They hope someone will give the gift of life and save a young patient in Austin.

Leland, 5, enjoys Star Wars, dinosaurs, making new friends and playing on the playground. Leland is also seriously ill.

"Five-year-old Leland is in desperate need of a kidney transplant," said John Specia, Commissioner of Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Leland is a foster child and has been on dialysis most of his life. Continue reading
