Peel sees increase in organ and tissue donor registrations

Figures released by Trillium Gift of Life Network on Tuesday, Nov. 17, show more than 89,000 residents registered their consent for organ and tissue donation between July 1 and Sept. 30, setting a new record for registrations in one quarter.

A new record has been set in Ontario for organ and tissue donation: In just three months, 89,000 people registered as new potential donors, bringing the province's total to 3.34 million registered donors.

Figures released by Trillium Gift of Life Network on Tuesday show more than 89,000 residents registered their consent to be organ and tissue donors between July 1 and Sept. 30, setting a new record for registrations in one quarter.

Brampton, with 16 per cent (a 3.5 per cent increase from the previous quarter), and Mississauga, with 18 per cent (a2.9 per cent more than the previous quarter), have both shown improvement over the past three years.

Both cities are, however, are below the provincial average of 28 per cent. Continue reading
