Holiday party unites children who received organ transplants in 2015


CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Over 40 children who received a heart, liver, kidney or bone marrow transplant at Levine Children’s Hospital in 2015 attended a Holiday Transplant Party at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte Saturday.

This year the children’s hospital broke records for heart transplants with eight pediatric heart transplants, which is the most the hospital has ever had, according to the hospital.

“Organ donations save children’s lives,” said Lynn Puma, pediatric heart, liver and kidney transplant social worker.

“Our patients grow up to live long, healthy lives thanks to the gift of life offered by organ donors and their families. This holiday celebration is a time for the pediatric transplant community to come together and celebrate with other children and families who have traveled a very similar lifesaving journey,” she said.
