Organ donor to be featured on Rose Parade float

There were smiles and there were tears as a Belen family completed a symbol of what it means to truly give.

After his death Aug. 19, 18-year-old Jonathan Paul “Ribs” Madrid saved his friend’s life by gifting him with a new liver. In a matter of days, Madrid’s youth football coach, Willie Martinez, was starting his life again, looking forward to decades of good health with his family, thanks to Madrid.

To honor the gift from Madrid and his family, his florograph portrait will be featured on the 2016 Donate Life Rose Parade Float in January. The theme of this year’s float is “Treasure Life’s Journey” and will feature 60 donor medal-inspired florographs honoring donors from around the country, including Madrid. Continue reading
