CHATHAM - Just a few months ago, Josh Fernandez was in the cab of a Chatham Emergency Squad ambulance racing down the Garden State Parkway in the driving rain headed for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Josh, in dire need of a lung transplant, fortunately made it to the hospital within the requisite two-hour time frame to receive the operation.
On Thursday night, barely six months after the procedure, Josh beat the doctors’ prognosis and joined his St. Patrick School seventh grade basketball team for the season opener against St. Mary’s.
“He has been doing beyond expectations,” Josh’s mother, Claudia, said before the game. “Even the doctors are amazed at how well he is doing, thank God. He’s a miracle.”
