Vanja Joannidis knew there was something wrong with her son, Charlie.
As a newborn he was constantly unsettled, would sleep for no longer than 15 minutes at a time and his dirty nappies were an abnormal colour.
Mrs Joannidis and her husband Andrew took Charlie to the hospital on numerous occasions, but each time they were sent home.
It was not until Charlie had blood in his stool that a paediatrician ran tests, and Mrs Joannidis told Daily Mail Australia the diagnosis were devastating.
‘The specialist came to see us and started telling us about the diagnosis: "Biliary Atresia," she said.
The condition meant Charlie, who will turn two on Tuesday, had inflammation in his bile ducts that causes toxins and waste to build up and damage the liver. Continue reading
