How to become an organ donor and other ways to help

Because three families suffered the tragic loss of a child, Sierra and Lindsey Lou Bingham were given the gift of life.

Every day, the selfless generosity of donor families saves lives. The grandmother of the donor whose heart saved Sierra told the Binghams that, because of his organ donation, she now remembers her grandson as a hero.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 121,705 people are currently awaiting an organ donation. 22 of those people will die every day waiting.

You can register to become an organ donor at www.organdonor.gov.

It is also helpful to designate your decision on your drivers license, tell your family and friends about your choice, inform your physician and indicate you wish to donate in your will or living will.
