Lake of the Woods District Hospital gets praise from Trillium Gift of Life Network

Kenora ranks near the top of the organ donation registration rate among Ontario communities.

The number of permanent residents in the Lake of the Woods region who have signed the back of their driver’s licence or let their consent be known that they want their organs to be donated should something unforeseen happen is 45 per cent of eligible donors, which places Kenora 24th out of 170 communities. The average registration rate in Ontario is 28 per cent.

Ronnie Gavsie, CEO/president of the Trillium Gift of Life Network, said while they don’t keep statistics on why the registration numbers are high in one community versus being low in another community, they do follow some trends. Continue reading
