Omaha man receives life saving lung transplant

One Omaha family is celebrating after a loved one gets to come home after a life–saving surgery.

"The donor that allowed this to happen and their family they're so special. They just gave me life," Double Lung Transplant Recipient Phil Sauvageau said.

58–year–old Phil Sauvageau received Nebraska Medicine's first lung transplant in nearly two decades.

He suffered from pulmonary fibrosis since 2012.

It's a disease that causes scarring of the lungs often ending in respiratory failure.

Now, Sauvageau said he's breathing much easier.

"I had oxygen for a long time and to not have it and you just feel like you're a new person." Continue reading
