Family Tearfully Thanks Heart Donor's Family

CHAPEL HILL, NC – A Burlington family is grateful for the miracle of life, after a life-saving heart transplant.

Albert Jeffries, or AL-J, battled heart disease since he was 4-months-old. The now 13-year-old has been off and on the transplant list his entire life. But, in December of 2015, his condition worsened, bumping him to the top of the transplant list.

“If we hadn't gotten the news, I don't know what the outcome would have been,” his mom, Tina Turner said.

The young boy became increasingly weak, fragile and ill over the last three months. However, his mom received a surprising phone call on March 8th, telling her AL-J would receive a new heart.

AL-J went into surgery just before midnight on Wednesday. Seven hours later, he woke up, his new heart beating in his small chest.

His Dad, Albert Jeffries, III said, “I put my head up to his chest and it's just pumping like a healthy heart." Continue reading
