Mother Hears Her Baby's Heart Beat Inside a 2-Year-Old Boy

When Jessica Harris's 8-month-old son Toby was critically injured in an accident that left him on life support (with no brain function), the Kentucky mom did the one thing she knew would help ease the pain — she asked doctors to donate her infant's organs to others in need.

Toby's heart was given to Brandie Hernandez's 8-month-old son, Daniel, who had been struggling with heart problems since birth. Toby's heart was his only chance.

"Since he got it," Hernandez told Fox 5. "I always wanted to know who it was, to thank them. It's a big blessing."

The two mothers' lives crossed paths at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in 2014 with the heart transplant, and they met again for the first time in over a year in the same place.

At first, both women were at a loss for words. Then, as family members watched, Harris put on a stethoscope and listened to Toby's heart beating inside Daniel's chest.

According to Harris, donating Toby's organs was the best decision of her life (his liver and kidneys helped save two other lives). Continue reading
