Two KOTA Territory residents raise awareness to kidney disease and donations

Are you an organ donor?Sometimes something so simple can make a big difference.

Our very own Kelly Cowherd is battling kidney disease and his body is rejecting the kidney his mom donated to him four years ago.

Cowherd, a KOTA production assistant,was diagnosed with kidney disease 2010. In 2012 his mom donated her kidney to him but just recently he learned his body is rejecting the kidney.

"My blood pressure was a little higher that it should be. I was getting headaches, my eyes were blood shot so I immediately called my doctor and he said you need to get in the hospital now," said Cowherd.

Cowherd was recently released from the hospital after a 16-day stay.

"They put me on a machine that actually took out all of the plasma from my body and took it out in two different treatments where they replaced it with actual human plasma. Then on the second one they replaced it with a type of synthetic. " continue reading, video
