Winter Park businessman donates kidney to man he barely knows

As Patrick Chapin was wheeled into the Florida Hospital operating room on a gurney, he told his family that he would see them on the "other side."

"I mean the other side of the hospital, when this is all done," Chapin, 48, recalled saying to his wife and family.

Chapin, the CEO and president of the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, was on his way to donate a kidney to David Andrews, the husband of an acquaintance and the executive vice president of Gettysburg Commercial Corporation.

"I was very flattered by that, I mean, I don't know him that well and here's a guy who wants to give you a kidney," Andrews said, while fighting tears during a recent interview. "I mean, words can't describe how you feel, you know?" Continue reading
