6 years after woman’s death, Dallas organ recipients thank family for life-saving donations

In their grief, Judy Thompson and her husband didn’t discuss it. They looked at each other and said yes when a man at a Missouri hospital asked if they would donate their daughter Davi’s organs.

The next day, on what would have been Davi’s 35th birthday, a woman and a man in Dallas received her lungs and her heart.

More than six years later, after a whirl of paperwork, cards, emails and phone calls, Thompson drove from Missouri to Dallas to meet the organ recipients for the first time.

Days before the trip Saturday, she had asked herself, “What have I done?”

But on Sunday, at the annual reunion for transplant patients at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, Thompson beamed as she showed photos to Dallas residents Kay Keeland and Lowry Briley. Continue reading
