The Cayuga County Department of Motor Vehicles will be kicking off Organ Donor Month with its seventh event providing the public with information on how to become a donor, refreshments and giveaways from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, April 4, at the Cayuga County Office Building, 160 Genesee St., Auburn.
New York state has the third highest number of patients waiting for organ donations, according to a press release. It also has one of the lowest rates of designated donors in the nation, with 18 percent of adults enrolled in the New York State Donate Life registry. The national average is 42 percent.
"The DMV is a great place to get people thinking about this important decision," Cayuga County Clerk Sue Dwyer said. "We try to help educate the public on how they can make a huge impact on other people's lives and families." Continue reading
