Davenport duo raises transplant donor, receiver awareness in powerful way

DAVENPORT, Iowa--April is National Donate Life Month, and right now about 124,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant. And a Davenport duo, one an organ donor, the other, an organ receiver are raising awareness in a special way.

Training on the track is something Eric Burge and Mary Beth Murray do as a team. They are there to push each other whether it's on the track or in a hospital bed.

Eric suffered from a hereditary kidney disease that, without a transplant, could have ended his life. But thanks to Mary Beth, he got a second chance. Back in January 2013, Mary Beth donated her kidney to Eric.

"I can't get up in the morning without thinking about her because a part of her is helping me get up every morning. There's no one word that describes the magnitude of what she did for me and my family," says Eric.

"He's always been a very constant person in my life that I've always been able to count on, and I'm just glad he was able to count on me," says Mary Beth. Continue reading
