Riverwood nurse gives gift of life to friend in need of kidney transplant and shares what that decision means

On Feb. 2, Jamie Lamke, who works as a licensed practical nurse in Riverwood’s Wound, Ostomy, Continence and Foot Care clinic, donated one of her kidneys to a family friend, Patrick Lathrop.

Riverwood invited Jamie to share her story so that others could learn about what it’s like to become a kidney donor.

“My wife used to babysit for Jamie many years ago, so it is really special to have her as my kidney donor,” said Lathrop. “I call her my Angel. Since the kidney implant surgery in February, I’m feeling as close to 100 percent as I’ve felt in 15 years!” Continue reading
