Families of organ donors release butterflies to remember loved ones

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The butterfly is considered by many to be a symbol of life.

A crowd gathered at Rapides Regional Medical Center Thursday morning to remember those who donated life when they lost theirs.

The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency hosted their second annual butterfly release.

"We're happy to host the donor families here and give them a special way to commemorate their loved one’s gift," said Larabee Thompson, a Family Advocate with LOPA.

Families of organ donors took part in the release. Janice and Dewey Williams lost their daughter, Jennifer, in 2007. It is events like these, the couple told us, help them get through hard times. Continue reading
